Chuck Davidson’s a homicide detective in Boston, and it’s put a damper on his relationships. It’s hard to find a guy who will put up with his crazy hours. Plus, Chuck has an aversion to modern technology. He likes sports, beer, and classic cars instead. How is he to know that planning the impending death of his newest phone will bring him in contact with a cute geek who just might have a thing for rugged, "slightly out of touch with the newest gadgets" older men? Herbert Pommerest has never been on a date or even kissed a man before. Oh, he knows he’s gay. He did all the experiments to ensure it was true, didn’t just go through a rebellious phase or a knee-jerk reaction because women scared him to death. For Herb, it’s easy to hide himself behind his research and daydream about what having a boyfriend would be like. But saving an expensive phone from an early demise brings him in contact with a street-wise mature detective. Suddenly Herb wishes he knew how to flirt because he’d love to take some lessons of the sensual kind from the sexy Chuck Davidson. Can a geek and a detective find common ground between their vastly different worlds before one of Chuck’s cases threatens to put Herb in danger from a ruthless killer?

I loved this story because the main characters are as opposite as two people could possibly be

New York City Homicide Detective Chuck Davidson is a guy’s guy. He likes sports, beer, classic cars, and of course his job.

Awkward biochemist Herbert Pommerset is a brilliant scientist with no social skills at all. He is a virgin, and only has his research (a.k.a. watching porn) to learn how to be with a man. He’s quirky, fun, and babbles non-stop.

When Chuck is about ready to throw his cellphone in the gutter - again - Herb steps in to save the device. Sounds too simple for two characters to meet? Not at all. This meeting leads to pharmaceutical terrorists and an attempt of Herb’s life. You really need to pick up the book. It’s a great way to spend an afternoon.

I have to admit however, there was one thing that drove me crazy. Chuck called Herb "honey" wayyyyyyyy too much...almost every page. I don't even like to be called "honey" that often. It became annoying. Other than that, I thought it was a great book.

Why I Love Geeks T A Chase 9781611249699 Books Reviews

In this novel by T. A. Chase, Herbert (the geek) meets Chuck (the police detective). The two of them are cute together, and the sex scenes seem fun. I did have some problems with this one, though. There was a plot to this book, but sadly most of it got resolved 'off screen.' Also, people who could help were far to convenient. And the largest problem I had was the top secret formula at the heart of this all. I understand all about suspension of disbelief, but this one really called for near lobotomization of disbelief. It may have solved a few plot problems, but it was so jarringly unrealistic for me that it gave the book the feel of some poorly concocted direct-to-DVD at best sort of story there only to tie together some sex. I enjoyed this on the whole, but it wasn't worthy of more than three stars.
I'm sorry to say but the story is so hard to believe from the detective who can't seem to be able to use a cell phone to a geek researcher who acts at times so infantile. The subplot involving the KGB, the NSA and the Chinese over control of a special project was a total turnoff. Get real. I expected more from T.A. Chase.
I love Herb, so smart but so clueless. He is loveable and funny. This is a wonderful story, easy to read with interesting characters.
When I read this book the first time same exact story line it was very good but when the book cover is updated with no data changed in the story line, there should be an warning to readers that this is no updated book, but just a new cover. I feel cheated in purchasing this same book twice.
3.5 Stars!

Review

This is a really fun book which is exactly what I wanted! Yea!

Chuck and Herb are awful hero names and that makes it so funny. Herb is chatty, socially awkward, virgin, geek genius. So, yeah! Love it. He is funny and sweet.

Chuck is really nice and really hot and a detective.

There a great deal of mayhem, secondary love story, a great family, and fun romance.

The books gets a bit manic and Chuck character could be more develop and there could be more emotionial connection but I had a blast reading this romp.
Chuck is a detective who is defective around technology. In fact he is going to "accidentally" lose or break his phone in a minute. He can't even answer it! But to the rescue of the phone come Herbert. Herbert is shy, gay, highly intelligent and has never been kissed. Herbert gets Chuck's messages out of his phone where Chuck learns he has been summonsed for dinner with his big family. Herbert is jealous, his parents forget he exists and he would love what Chuck has. He thinks with his mouth a lot and this leads to Herbert confessing he wants Chuck and once Chuck kisses him he confesses that was his first.
Circumstances, and Chuck's sneaky sister conspire, to bring the two men together. Herbert wears his emotions on his sleeve, which is very entertaining for Chuck's entire family and to the delight of Chuck.
Herbert confesses that he likes what Chuck does to him and for him, but hypothesizes that this reaction to Chuck may be a fluke so maybe he should experiment with others to see if it is just Chuck - except he made the mistake of saying that to Chuck who reacted badly. He forbade Herbert from any sexy experiments except on him.
And as if that wasn't enough there are Russian mob/spies, industrial espionage, a murder, a nosy old lady neighbour and a couple that ignite when they come together - oh and did I mention invisibility? Oh yes, this is good. I would have like to see a book based around Herbert's boss and the security guard...but still waiting.
I loved this story because the main characters are as opposite as two people could possibly be
